HOW CLEAN IS YOUR PC

As Computer Cleaning Week kicks off, Computer Shopper has eight cleaning kits to give away, so you can spruce your PC up and rid yourselves of germs.
It's not just your computer that's likely to get infected, as the average keyboard is the perfect breeding ground for germs including e-coli and salmonella. With many of us eating at our desks, our computers often end up having more germs than a toilet seat.
Durable, a manufacturer of cleaning products, is kicking off its second Computer Cleaning Week from 17th to 22nd September, with Kim Woodburn, from TV's How Clean is your House?
"If you're going to put your dirty hands on keyboards and sneeze while you're on the phone, there's no doubt that you'll expose your equipment to all sorts of unpleasant organisms," said Woodburn, "so it is time we tackled this problem head on and eliminate these germs, before we all get ill."
A survey run by Durable highlighted how big the problem is, highlighted how 90 per cent of us eat at our desks, while most people wait well over two weeks for dirt to build up before doing anything about it. The survey revealed that men are the biggest filth offenders, with two thirds of them sneezing or coughing without covering their mouths, and 60 per cent leaving the bathroom without washing their hands. However, 62 per cent of women retrieve things from their bins by hand.
If you're in any doubt about the level of dirt infecting your peripherals there's a simple test you can perform.

"Turn your keyboard upside down over a sheet of A4 paper and see what comes out," said Stewart Anderson, VP of marketing at Durable UK.
Computer Shopper's staff were more than a little shamed when they performed the test, as you can see by the, rather horrible, photos. If these pictures look anything like the state of your computer, send us a picture of your keyboard to letters@computershopper.co.uk for a chance to win a Durable cleaning kit. We've got eight to give away, each one containing screen cleaner, telephone cleaning wipes, general wipes, CD/DVD lens cleaner and rubber gloves. Enter, by Monday 24th September, and the eight people with the grubbiest computers will win one set each.
